Levelling the playing field - how company transparency drives financing for development
Transparency over company ownership is an essential building block of a fair financial system. Knowing who owns, controls or benefits from companies and other corporate vehicles (their beneficial owners) is a foundation element to curb corruption, money laundering and tax evasion - key three areas that hinder economic and social development, as they facilitate illicit financial flows that prevent investment where it is most needed.
This panel discussion will reflect on how company accountability through beneficial ownership transparency can level the playing field to legitimate businesses, and can support to enforce progressive tax policies, detect and prevent corruption and be an engine for development where corporate governance is accountable, and where democracy is delivering for citizens.
